Okay, so in the latest issue of FWF Magazine I said that I'd write a blog with my thoughts on Jealousy. You know, sometimes I need to keep my mouth shut. But oh well. Here we go...
Lost Heroes League Match
Standard Match
James Stall
vs
Marcus Thomas Brody
I'll start out with a look at the match I added to the show myself. Now, in my interview, I mentioned some of my early favourites for the tournament. Two of them being my former students, The New Direction: MTB and James Stall. I've been saying great things about them for ages, and I thought they could potentially have been the final. Unfortunately, they lost in the first round. I don't know if it was Pain or the Board of Directors who made their first round match a tag team bout, but I personally didn't think it was fair. In singles competition, MTB would've defeated Benny Starr and James Stall could've defeated Jack Cool. Instead, they ended up out of the tournament and didn't have a spot on the Jealousy card. The fact that they weren't even involved in the decision annoys me too. But I can't change the past. Lucky for me, I'm League Commissioner and since the League was running behind the original timeframe I had in mind for it, I moved their fixture to Jealousy.
Let me start with James Stall. He's got a hot temper. I've heard rumours that he almost quit FWF over not being able to rise up the card. I hope they aren't true. He needs to start applying himself and bring it every week. Maybe channelling his hot temper and teenage angst into what he does in the ring could do him some good. He's a big guy with a powerful arsenal and I think he needs to use it to his advantage.
MTB seems to prove himself well, but in order to rise up the card he needs to get some decisive wins by himself first. Any time he's won in the past year, it's been thanks to unwanted assistance or by DQ. Despite that, he always takes his opponents to their limits. If you want any indications, just go back and watch his matches. I'd suggest not dwelling on matters like that and just focus on the match. He needs to not get distracted.
Both young Warriors need this match as much as the other. When looking at the standings, you see that James Stall is currently on 12 points with only this match remaining, whereas MTB has 15 points with this and one more match left. He's currently tied for first place with Timothy Edward Vortex. With Sah'ta Thor making an announcement on the show, things become uncertain. He's still got matches with Vortex and Matthew Knox left and is on 12 points. I'm not sure if Knox is able to compete after his handicap match with The new Direction and I don't know what Thor has to say. I'll be keeping a close eye though to see how that affects the League. But I digress. If James Stall loses, it's mathematically impossible for him to reach the final so this is a must-win match for him. MTB needs some momentum, and James needs the win. It's tough to make a decision so I'm going to go ahead and say it's too close to call.
Prediction:Too close to call.
Standard Match
"Made" Roman Mason
vs
Timothy Edward Vortex
Speaking of the Lost Heroes League, the current joint leader will also be in action at Jealousy, as Timothy Edward Vortex goes one-on-one with FWF's most recent signing "Made" Roman Mason. I don't know much about either to be honest, although I swear I've seen Vortex somewhere before. I've watched Vortex's matches and he's really something. Of course, he must be if he's joint-top of my league table. Roman was in action against "The" Ross Walker last week on Live-Wire and lost. He didn't show much out there, but to be fair on the guy, he was against Ross. Vortex is quite the enigma, but Roman Mason's potential as an FWF Warrior is both unknown and untapped. But if I'm going for a prediction, I'll be best going with my League's leader.
Prediction: Timothy Edward Vortex
FWF World Championship
Board Rules
"Captain" Joe Stall
vs
"The Briggstastic Briggsonator" Mark Briggs
There'd been rumblings online about this Board of Directors with the power to overrule some of Chairman Pain's decisions and make matches of their own. No one knew of their identity, until one of them showed his face on Live-Wire. Mark Briggs, agent of Better Than Sex: "Super" Benny Starr and "Ultra" Jack Cool, show announced that "Captain" Joe Stall would be defending the FWF World Championship against himself in a Board Rules match...
I don't know anything about what this match entails, and I don't think Joe knows either. His challenger will know and that gives him the edge. The one thing Mark Briggs doesn't have on his side is actual wrestling ability. He's a suit, and not a wrestler, yet Joe Stall is a grizzled veteran who's seen it all. He's won championships in UCW and FWF and deserves his Hall of Fame spot and the World Championship. As for how he handles this stipulation, he's overcome worse odds I mean, the man fought in Vietnam! And let's not forget that he single-handedly defeated three of FWF's toughest Warriors last month at War Zone. In fact, that just reminded me that at one point both these men were in charge of their shows; Stall as Commissioner of Monday Night Rampage and Briggs as D.O.A. of Live-Wire.
I won't count out the factor of Better Than Sex getting involved in the match. However, despite Joe's heart and ability, can he really overcome these unknown rules? I can see the World Championship going into the hands of the former Live-Wire Director of Authority.
Prediction: Mark Briggs becomes FWF World Champion.
FWF Jealousy Tournament
Golden Ticket
round 2 - Hardcore
round 3 - Submission
finals - t.b.a.
And naturally, I shall close with what this Pay-Per-View is all about: The eighth annual Jealousy Tournament. As the only Warrior to win this tournament twice, and the first name people think of whenever Jealousy is mentioned, my expertise should be taken note of. As I said in my FWF Magazine interview (if you don't get this magazine, you really should) the key is endurance, and nothing will test the endurance of the eight Warriors who made it past the heats more than what's in store. Hardcore matches in the Quarter Finals... Submission matches for the Semis. And a final that nobody knows. The quarter finals test how much your body can take and the semi finals test how much your mind can take. The final, though it's not known what's ahead will be a true test of your body and your mind. I really can't wait to see who comes out on top.
And now, for my thoughts on the eight participants...
Prozac
We hadn't seen or heard from this former Heavyweight Champion since Blizzard. He's had an impressive return with a very quick and well-handled victory over another former Heavyweight Champion and past Jealousy winner, Camisado. I've wrestled this guy on a few occasions when I was World Heavyweight Champion. In fact, I've beaten him in the Jealousy Tournament itself, and I'll be the first to admit he was a worthy adversary. It'll be interesting to see how he fares in Boston.
"Super" Benny Starr
And the guy I beat in the first round of Jealousy 5 will be facing the guy I beat in the semi final of Jealousy 5. In my opinion, he shouldn't even be in this final eight. He cheated against The New Direction, and didn't actually defeat MTB, who he was "drawn" against. I should be writing about my student here, but this sleazy greaseball is being written about instead. That said, his grasp of the Mexican style of wrestling is second to none in FWF, and his normally illegal Super Strike is perfectly legal in a Hardcore match so Prozac needs to watch out for that. If Benny can hit it successfully, I can see him advancing.
The Fizz
I've had the pleasure of competing alongside and against my fellow Hall of Famer. After a great Ironman match at Vertigo for the then-vacant FWF Ironman Championship, I took The Fizz under my wing (pardon the pun) as part of my Eagle Gang (although the less said about that name, the better) and since then she's come on leaps and bounds. I'd never seen her look so dominant when she faced Justin Bauer in the heats. Here's hoping she continues that form.
Dagger Dave
I don't really know much about this guy, though I've been told he's a hardcore specialist, which could be bad news for Fizz. He's impressed with wins over Chuft Guy (who nevers lets me forget that I tapped out to him in 2002) and Top Dog (who I destroyed in my UCW debut) and against newcomer Seth Jacobs in his heat. I've heard he's quite a cocky so-and-so so I'm hoping The Fizz uses her Hall of Fame abilities to make him humble. Then again, he'd have fit into UCW just perfectly. How I'd have loved to have knocked him down a peg with a nice Wing Attack.
That just about covers one side of the brackets.
Ritalin
I started the first half with one Med, so it's fitting I start with the other Med. Ritalin may not be as successful as his partner, but he never really got a chance to. It's common knowledge that Ritalin had some issues in the past but he appears to have overcome them. For that alone, I'm proud of this young man. He did a good job against Top Dog as well. I can only expect good things from Ritalin heading forwards, though he has a tough test lying ahead.
"The" Ross Walker[/b]
This man has gone by many different monikers. Newcastle's Finest, Your Worst Nightmare, The Most Hated Man in Wrestling. One he's not so proud of is: "The Greatest Warrior to Never be World Champion." He's a tricky one to defeat, I can attest to that, but he always seems to flake and bottle it whenever he's got a big match. His form may have dropped after his Blizzard win, but these past few weeks have seen him looking like the Ross we know and love (to hate). He's put away Matthew Knox and Roman Mason with relative ease. I hope he can bring his A-game to Jealousy.
"Ultra" Jack Cool
Like Benny Starr, this man should not have made it to the quarter finals. He shouldn't have won the UK title from me either. At least I got to win the FWF Tag Team Championships from him with Dan "Dragon" Taylor. I cannot stand this guy, and I really hope he gets destroyed by the man who beat him at War Zone...
"The Human Suplex Machine" Marcus Brody
Who else did you expect me to save for last? I'm proud to call Marcus my mentor and my friend, and I'm ever so pleased that he's the Universal Champion. It's about time a UCW guy got to hold a belt that represents my original stomping grounds. Out of all the participants in this tournament, he's the only one I've spoken to. His mind's in this. I've given him advice (it's always fun to teach your teacher) and helped him iron out some of his weaknesses. The Hardcore match should play right into the UCW play book, so I know he'll be right at home. He's beaten Jack Cool before and I believe he can do so again. If the Marcus Brody that defeated Sah'ta Thor last week shows up at Jealousy, then I'll be watching him very closely.
Prediction: A must-watch tournament! (I'm keeping my personal prediction for the tournament to myself)
Conclusion
As I said before, this Jealousy will be the toughest yet. This pay-per-view is close to my heart, and I kind of hope there's some capacity I can appear on the show. If not, let me say good luck to all competing from Mr. Jealousy himself.
I am The Predator! And you are the prey!
