Time out
Sometimes the best thing someone could do for their personal well being is to take some time to enjoy the scenery.
It was mid-afternoon and the sin shone done on the land with an almost brutal intent. The head had drive most to the lakes or back indoors in an attempt to get cool. Though for some some they had other things going on. It was once such thing that found the camera man in a semi-air conditioned gym. There was a wrestling ring set up and a trainer was keeping an eye on the charges in around the ring.
Yet the most interesting thing was class was not a group of adults looking to get some training in. No this particular class was made up of nearly a dozen kids from the ages of seven to nine. There were both boy and girls each with a passionate look in their eyes. A look that many adults in the business had seemingly to lost as the stress of it all got to them.
One of the children was his adopted daughter, Isabella. The girl had been part of the family for just over three years and had been pestering him to let her start training to become a wrestler. Well he that request had come a few weeks earlier but it had taken that long for the arrangements to be made for the training. He smiles deeply as he remembers just what had happened to cause this moment to come about.
“DADDY LOOK!” He looks up from the Bible and notepad that say on his desk as the voice of his eight year old adopted daughter Isabella rings out from the door way of his study. In her hands was a card board and duck tape wrestling championship. Seeing the belt made him smile slightly as he set the pen in his hand down to mark his spot. Standing up he moves towards the little girl who he now called his daughter. One of thirty such children he had saved that night but for some reason she had bonded with him the fastest. He still visited and saw the other but due to the experiences they had suffered they needed special care. Care that was offered in a private group home type setting that he had set up for them.
“What is it Isabella?” He kneels beside her and looks down at the belt she had made. It was one of those things that made him wonder just what impact he was having on the next generation. “I made you a championship belt Daddy. Here take it.” Isabella thrust the cardboard and duck tape title belt into his hands. He takes it reverently and looks at the words she had written on it in black and red sharpie, “Greatest Daddy in the World Championship.” The words cause a lump to form in the back of his throat as he looks into Isabella’s eyes. In that moment he was very much aware of how much his wrestling career had affected his family. “Thank you Isabella.”
“You are welcome Daddy.” She throws her arms around him as and buries her head head into his neck. He sets the one of a kind belt down beside him and wraps his arms around his little girl. As he holds her tears start to fall down his cheeks as he realizes that he had overlooked some of the greatest joys in life while he was on the road wrestling. Here was the little girl who had helped induct him into the Global Extreme Wrestling’s Hall of Fame the year before not because she had an ulterior motive but because she loved him. Isabella had warmed up to him instantly and he had actually forgotten how much she loved him with all that was going on in his life right then.
“Isabella what do you want to be when you grow up?” Part of him was afraid to hear the answer but the rest of knew that he needed to hear it. He suspected he knew what she wanted to be later in life but needed to hear it from her. “I want to be a great wrestler just like you Daddy.” How did one reply to that? He couldn’t say no to the self assured almost prophetic manner in which she had spoke. Besides in a family where almost every member of note had stepped into the ring at one time or another it would be wrong to tell his adopted daughter that wasn’t the right path for her to go down.
Not when her adoptive mother, grandfather, adoptive brother, adoptive sister and her husband, her aunt and her husband, and several close family friends were all wrestlers and had at one point in time held at least one championship during their time in the ring. “Isabella you do know that being a wrestler is hard work right?” Isabella pulls her head back to look into his brownish black eyes with her blue ones. “I know Daddy but I want to win a world title just like you.” The innocence of that comment made him wonder if she knew just what it was she was desiring. Did she realize that becoming a world champion wrestler meant sacrifice and pain, lots of pain.
Often he wondered if it was worth the effort to keep going out there every week to put his body on the line for a hopes of winning a piece of leather and metal. Yet each time he did he was reminded of a simple true, that he had to go out there and put his body on the line because it reminded him he was alive. Though looking down at his little girl he realized that there were other ways for him to feel alive. “Well if that is what you really want I will start your training. But if I let you start training young lady I will want nothing but the best from you.” As soon as those words had been spoken Isabella’s face broke into an excited smile as she kisses his cheek before replying “I know Daddy but I don’t want to just train I want to compete just like you do.”
“I will see what I can do Princess, but it might take a little while but I promise I will find you something.” Isabella yells happily before pulling away from him. She runs out the door to go tell her big sister all about what he had just promised. Standing up slowly Nathaniel Grant, better known as Sah’ta Thor to the wrestling world, picks up the belt his daughter had made for him and looks at it carefully before setting it on the edge of his desk. He moves back to sit down and finish his Bible reading but couldn’t think how he would be able to make his little girl’s dreams of competing in a wrestling match come true.
"So it looks like dreams will be coming true today. Isabella will begin her training and we will see how it holds her interest." The words were spoken as if to himself as he stood watching the group begin to practice. He just had a flash back to when he had promised Isabella that he would he start her training and it made him smile. This moment far out shone the reality that he was the current GEW World and Tag Team Champion.
It also made the fact that he was the number one contender to the FWF Universal Title something of side thought in the moment. A title that he would be fighting for in a brand new match type. A match type that he would find out all about on Live-Wire when he singed the match contract with Oswald Brodd. Then there was the simple fact that he was in the lead of the FWF Lost Heroes League tournament. A tournament that he had match in this week against James Stall.
And sadly it was a match that Thor figured he would lose. Not because James Stall was the better wrestler but because of his family connections. That and the fact that there were people in the back who got away with constantly costing people matches. Oh which reminded him that in his match against Joe Stall he would have won had Christian Lee not blind sided him.
But at the moment all the concerns of his career were distractions from taking part in the first step of his adopted daughter's wrestling training. Training that would eventually lead to her starting to compete. He would need to figure out how to set all that up but soon enough but for know he would enjoy the moment.
