So this is where I try what we English Majors call a Joycian Stream of concious narrative. I had lot of fun with it.
If you haven't read "Just Visiting" in the developmental rp section you should. One, because it's really good, and two because this rp takes place immediatly following James' last post, and references it a few times.
You can find that here: xdxdragonxtx.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=developmental&action=display&thread=6589&page=1

Well that was… interesting. I have to be honest. I didn’t expect Danny T to really push me that much. Was it anywhere near my limit? No. But then again I’m sure he was holding back too. And that’s… well it’s interesting. Perhaps I was wrong about Danny T. Yes. Perhaps I was wrong about Danny T- Danny T-… T-…. What a minute. What was his last name again? I know it’s not Taylor. It’s some other last name that begins with a T, which if you ask me is rather damn convenient, but I just can’t put my finger on it. Oh well. It doesn’t really matter. He’s leaving now. There he goes walking under the ring ropes after shaking my hand and faking me out with that jab. I can’t believe he faked me out. I flinched. I honestly flinched. I have to remember to get him back for that. Got to remember to finish what we’ve started in this ring today. Man that was actually a lot of fun. I never thought I would actually have that much fun with Danny T. But there he goes now. He’s walking past Marcus Brody senior, who gives him a nod as Danny so politely addresses him as sir.
That’s right. Brody. I wanted to talk to Marcus senior about Marcus junior my often times absent currently in jail tag team partner. I can’t believe MTB went and got himself in jail when we’re weeks away from a major title defense at WarZone in a War Games match against Benny Starr, WBL, and Christian Lee. And that’s right my grandpa Joe’s on our team. His world title is on the line as well. Damnit this is too much pressure. But I need to talk to Marcus senior. Maybe he’ll know what’s going on with MTB, even they haven’t been on speaking terms recently.
So now I’m climbing out of the ring. Just slip right under those ropes and walk down the steel ring steps. Cross the floor of the FWF gym toward where Marcus Brody senior is pummeling the heavy bag. Wait why is he even here? Shouldn't he be in the UCW gym? He’s really going at it. His fists strike the bag in a slow but deliberate rhythm. Each shot lands with a powerful thud. That reminds me I still have to do my reps on the bench press today. There it is a little ways behind Brody. And across the room is the treadmill I should step on at some point. I really need to work on my speed. I’ve got the strength. That’s for sure, but my speed isn’t that great. I wonder if I can get Adam to find us a chicken. Maybe I’ll do some training Rocky style. That might help. Gotta think outside the box sometimes.
But pay attention James. You’re standing next to Marcus Brody senior now. He’s stopped punching the bag. He’s staring at you. How long has he been staring at you? How long have you just been standing here? He’s waiting for you to say something. Say something. Say something!
“Hey.”
Smooth James. Real smooth. Try not to look like an idiot in front of this guy. He’s a living legend. He’s one of UCW’s most decorated wrestlers. He practically built the gym you’re standing in, and he’s the father of your tag team partner. He’s the father of the man who got himself arrested before your big match at WarZone where you’re defending not just yours but your grandfather’s world title against three of the biggest sleazeballs FWF has ever known, three guys who are ruthless, cunning, and even though you would never admit it out loud talented. An- oh man you have a match this week against Sah’ta Thor a guy who has defeated your grandfather, and your uncle, and he’s undefeated and the currently leader of the Lost Heroes League and this is a Lost Heroes League match which you are so not nearly prepared enough for and-
“Can I help you kid?”
Shit. You’re doing it again. You’re just staring off into space thinking about other things again aren’t you. You’re stuck thinking about that War Games match at WarZone we’re you’re defending three belts against three men. And you have that Lost Heroes League Live-Wire match against Sah’ta Thor who has beaten your grandfather and your uncle and numerous other big names and- Crap. Crap you’re doing it again. Focus. Focus. Talk to the man. Say what you came here to say.
“Yeah I was just wondering…”
Say it.
“If you had heard anything…”
Say it!
“From Marcus lately.”
There we go. That wasn’t that hard now was it? Oh. He’s frowning. He’s looking down at his boots. Way to go. You’ve upset him. You’re an idiot. Idiot!
“I haven’t talked to Marcus since Genesis. Little buggers gone and got himself thrown in the clink. Good. Maybe it’ll cool him off a little.”
Yeah. And maybe it’ll keep him away from training with me, which he doesn’t do much of nowadays anyway. We tend to do our training separately, but still we have the big title match at WarZone we should be worrying about. Although I can’t help but be a little proud of him. He took a stand against those rotten jerks. Yeah, but you have to admit it was pretty stupid running out there at the end of the night with a pool cue. Well yeah, but still he took a stand. He was defending Grandpa Joe. Something you didn’t do. He took a stand consequences and all. Good for him. Fuck the police and all that. Don’t make rap references. You’re white. Rap references sound stupid coming from you. O-Oh shit Brody is staring at me again.
“Th-thank you.”
There we go. And now you’ve looked like an awkward child in front of Marcus Brody senior, wrestling legend. What is wrong with you? You’re normally so smooth. Why do you have these moments so full of total fail? And now he’s stopped looking at you. He’s turned his attention back to the bag. He’s pounding it again. And here you are still standing here. And you have a match against Sah’ta Thor that you are thoroughly unprepared for, and you just had an exhibition against Danny T that could have gone better. You really need to remember to face him again, and for real, some time. But back to your match with Sah’ta Thor coming up. It’s for the Lost Heroes League and you’ve already fallen behind because of your lose to Timothy Vortex. You’re tied with MTB. Of course he’s only had one match and he won it. You’ve had two and you lost one. So if he has a second one, which he will, and if he wins, which he probably will, he’ll be ahead of you. And that might be because he honestly might be a better wrestler than you. That’s what people seem to think anyway. So you should really focus on this match with Sah’ta Thor because you really need those points. That way even if you lose one match to MTB you can stay in contention for second and get a rematch in the finals when it really matters and- Idea! I’ve had an idea. I’m standing next to the legend Marcus Brody senior. I’m standin next to one of the greatest British wrestlers ever, and he happens to be the father of Marcus Thomas Brody junior, my tag team partner. He thought MTB almost everything MTB knows about wrestling. It would be foolish to waste this opportunity.
“I was wondering if you could give me a lesson.”
He stops punching the bag abruptly. The bag swings in the air momentarily before he says anything.
“You want me to train you?”
Yeah.
“Well yeah. I mean, I’ve been having some trouble with my suplexes lately, and you’re the human suplex machine. Who better to learn from? Plus you’re Marcus Brody. Who wouldn’t want to be trained by you?”
He’s looking down again. He’s probably thinking about Marcus junior. Way to go. Stop upsetting him asshole. You need him One, he could help immediately fix some issues with your suplexes. How many times do guys land on their feet when you try them? This will help you in your match with Sah’ta Thor. Two, he’d be a great help in preparing you for your War Games match at WarZone against WBL, Benny Starr, and Christian Lee. Three, he can teach you exactly how to counter and beat all of MTB’s moves. Then you won’t need a rematch to beat him. You’ll beat him the first time. Who better to teach you how to beat Marcus than Marcus… senior. He’s looking up again. He’s staring at me intently. I can tell he’s thinking things over, but what is he thinking about? We can’t be gifted with an inside look into everyone’s mind.
“Okay. Get in the ring.”
He’s going to train me? Yes he’s going to train you. Now get in the damn ring, and stop looking like an idiot. I slide back into the ring, and stand eagerly. Brody climbs in. He’s smiling. He’s actually smiling. Good. Smiling is good.
“Alright, first lesson… hmmm…. We’ll start with my favorite, the German suplex.”
I already know the German suplex, but okay. I suppose he- oh and he’s grabbing me from behind now. Alright. This is a little awkward. I wish he had told me what he was going to do first, or at least that we were going to actually start. I’m a little unprepared for this, but it’s cool. Just listen to what he has to say.
“Now I want you to try and break this hold.”
Easy. I shift my body weight and throw a few elbows. I’m able to slip the hold fairly easily once I get Brody to loosen it.
“Good.”
He grabs me from behind again.
“Do it again.”
I go to elbow him, but it’s not that easy. He’s pushing me the other way. I can’t connect with him. I try to move to slip my way out of the hold, but he’s still got me. I try to pry his hands loose, and then suddenly I’m up in the air. He I go. I’m about to land right on my shoulder. Bam. There’s the mat.
“Come on. Get up.”
I’m still slightly dazed. That was one of the most powerful German suplexes I’ve ever felt. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve perfected it like he has. I do as I’m told, and he grabs me again. Of course, if he had really wanted to he could have kept his hold from earlier and hit me with at least two more Germans.
“The common misconception is that all you have to do for a German suplex is grab the opponent from behind and lift. And sure if you’re quick enough you can hit a snap German that way, but if you really want to put some power behind it your real focus needs to be your leg placement. Feel that?”
Yes. Sure enough I can feel it. His leg is on the inside of mine. The pressure around my waist had distracted me from it. But now that I’m conscious of it I can feel it. I can feel him pressing against me. He’s closer than he was the very first time he locked me in this position. His strong muscles are keeping me in place, and man our sport sure is gay sometimes.
“See from this position you can control your opponents momentum. If he can’t move his body he can’t hit you with those elbows. Then he can’t slip your hold. And with that extra time you can aim your opponent right where you want him. For example I’m about to drill your shoulder into this mat again.”
Sure enough I’m flying again. I have to be honest, even though I’m getting my ass kicked this is really cool. I forget sometimes that this man is actually my Godfather. It’s hard to believe I’ve never been in the ring with Uncle Marcus before. It’s really- Ow! Mat! I’m quick to my feet again though. This time Uncle Marcus goes to lock me up again. I’m ready for him. Our feet shuffle as he tries to get me in position. I hit him with a hard elbow. He’s strong, but I’m stronger. It’s in my genes. I break the hold and slip behind him. I plant my foot between his legs and hit him with a German suplex of my own. Let’s see how his shoulder feels after that. He gets up… easily.
“Good. Very good. Of course if I wanted to I could have easily stopped that.”
I’m sure you could.
“But that was very well done. Alright, grapple with me.”
We grapple together in the middle of the ring. His foot gets between my legs again and he lifts me in the air and hits me with a suplex. This time I land square on my back.
“See leg position is important again. If you don’t have that locked in your opponent can already begin to move, even when you’re lifting him into the air. And that makes it easier for him to land on his feet. With your leg there you control his movement and you can pull him down further so there’s less time between the lift and him hitting the ground.”
Good to know. I’ll be sure to remember that when I face Sah’ta Thor and especially when I face MTB. I climb to my feet again.
“Now charge at me.”
I run at Marcus and immediately he hooks my head and hits me with a snap suplex. I jump to my feet and run at him again, but I meet the same result.
“See here’s your problem. You’re leading with your head. Don’t lead with your head. When you do that you make it easier for me to hook you with the snap suplex. You a big guy. Lead with your chest. Then I don’t have anything to grab easily but torso, and that leaves your arms free. Lead with your head and you’re just going to get hooked up and popped with an uppercut. Got it?”
I nod. This is all incredibly important information. I’ve spent all my life focusing on strength and hitting, but Danny was right, I’ve never really learnt technical wrestling. I might have to make these sessions with Uncle Marcus a regular thing. I think I’m still nodding. Sometimes I nod lots. Stop it. You’re looking stupid again.
“Okay. Now I’ll sure you the belly to belly suplex. The key here is to get as close to your opponent as possible. Now it’s inevitable that at some point you two might end up bumping uglies, but don’t let that scare you. The first guy to squirm away from that loses momentum and ends up on the mat.”
Oooooook. And I think this training session has gone on long enough for one day.
“Thank Uncle Marcus, but I actually have to get going. I have to see a man about a chicken.”
He looks at me with a cocked eyebrow.
“A chicken?”
“Yeah… a chicken.”
Uncle Marcus stares at me for a moment. It’s something to be in the man with this legend to know that he’s preparing me for an important match with Sah’ta Thor. He can help me win at WarZone. He can help me beat his son. He looks at me, and finally he nods.
“Okay. I’m expecting your grandfather soon anyway.”
Grandpa Joe? What’s he doing here? This is England… why would he fly across the Atlantic without telling me he was visiting?
“What’s Grandpa Joe doing here?”
Marcus smiles. What’s going on?
“I’m helping to train him.”
Grandpa Joe needs help training? Well that’s…. interesting. But why didn’t he tell me?
“Odd. He didn’t tell me he was coming.”
Brody laughs. I don’t think this is funny.
“Well I guess he figured it’s none of your business.”
None of my business? I’m his grandson. He could have at least said he was flying over. We could grab dinner like we usually do when he visits. He could give me a training session. But why doesn’t he want me to know he was coming? Odd… very odd, but I’ve spent too much time thinking about it already. I have stuff to do. Let Grandpa Joe worry about himself. I just have to worry about me, and maybe MTB… who’s still in jail… and we have a title match, at WarZone, against WBL, Benny Starr and Christian Lee, and we have to help my grandfather defend his world title as well. This is too much.
“Well thanks Uncle Marcus. We’ll do this again sometime.”
He smiles again. Good ol’ Uncle Marcus. This training session has been a long time coming.
“I look forward to it.”
And with that I turn around and leave Marcus Brody Senior, the legend, to his business. I roll out of the ring and head toward the gym doors. I think I really will look into that chicken thing. It couldn’t hurt. Then later I’ll come back here and lift some weights and hit the treadmill. I suppose at some point I should let Uncle Marcus teach me how to perfect the belly to belly suplex too.
Man our sport sure is gay sometimes!
