He almost did it.
He went the distance. He went to the Finals of the Jealousy tournament. He defeated The Fizz in a Hardcore match. He caused Prozac to tap out in a submission match. And then he almost defeated Marcus Brody Senior in an Ironman match to win it all. He almost had a guaranteed title shot. He almost could have caused the fans to fall in disbelief, knowing that the man they had just now grown to hate immensely was able to win it all. He had almost done it all.
But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
However, he had proven that he is legit. He was able to show that he could stand up to the big boys and even beat them. Now, he is going up against the biggest challenge to date, his toughest fight of his career. Forget all of the Hardcore matches, forget all the tournaments, this was going to be a big one. He was put on the spotlight once again. He was in the main event. Who else would he face but…
Joe Stall?
The sixty-something year old veteran was the current FWF World Champion. If he would have won the tournament, he would have faced “Captain” Stall for the title. The man was bigger than him, but he didn’t give a fuck. He hated him. He was the champion he wanted to beat. He was some old man that could barely move around. He was a “legend”, a person he had been striving to defeat ever since he got into FWF. Four legends had been defeated. One had been pushed to the limit. Now, he was looking to add Stall to the list.
Could he do it? Could he defeat the loved champion? Could the man hated by many shut them up once again? Or would he fall short again? Would it be “I almost did it”? He had to step up his game for this one. He was ready for it, and he was confident. Fuck the fans, fuck the critics, and fuck everyone that thought he was going to lose.
Dagger Dave was going to leave that ring with another victory to his name.
“The winner of FWF Jealousy Eight ...Marcus Brody!”
“Aaaaah!” Dave shot up from his slumber. He had been dreaming about the Ironman match at Jealousy Eight. It had been haunting him, coming so close to the end just to be defeated in the final seconds. He could not believe an old man had beaten him. Dave was so much younger, so much more energized. But he failed to defeat the veteran.
The sun had began to peak through the hotel’s window, flashing into Dave’s eyes. It was his birthday, a day that nobody celebrated, not even Dave. It was just another day, it only made him a year older. He was now twenty-six. The only way he was going to celebrate today was by getting drunk and trying to get by the day with a limit of a handful of people pissing him off.
“House keeping!” The loud banging on the door frustrated Dave. Today already felt like it was going to be a long day. He threw the covers over his head and tried to go back to bed. He heard a key chain rattling before hearing his door open. Dave tossed the blanket off of him and looked at the woman.
“DO YOU MIND!?!” The woman turned around and Dave could only look at her in shock. Could it really be? Was it whom he really thought it was? It was! It was…it was…it’s..
It’s Jenny…
She looked at Dave and by the expression on her face, she could tell that it was Dave. They both were in shock. What were the odds that they would cross paths again?
“D-d-d…Dave? Is that you?” She stuttered, in absolute awe about the whole situation. She hadn’t seen Dave since the day that he had been kicked out of the orphanage. Dave remembered that day. It was the day she caved into peer pressure and chose her own reputation over doing the right thing and helping Dave. She could have helped make his life better, but she didn’t.
“Jenny?” He rubbed his eyes with his hands. He was just as surprised as Jenny was. He thought that she was out of his life forever and he was never going to see her again. He really didn’t want to see her again after that day. But hey, she was here now.
“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s you! I never thought I would see you again!” She stopped what she was doing and ran to him. She hugged him. Wait, she hugged him?
That was a horrible idea.
“Get the hell off of me!” Dave squirmed free of Jenny’s hold and looked at her. His eyes showed hatred, malice. Dave was ready to go off for the years of his life that she had ruined. She should have stood up for Dave to keep him at the orphanage and save his life. Now, it was time for Dave to add his two cents on the whole dilemma.
“How the fuck do you think you are going to come up to me and think we are going to be all lovey dovey? You fucked me over, Jenny. You were supposed to be my friend, and you decided to give me a big “Fuck You” in front of everybody. You didn’t care about me. You cared about what other people thought about you. Now you expect me to welcome you back?” Jenny was shocked. She had put it all behind her. She had hoped Dave’s life had still been okay.
“Dave, I’m sorry. I thought that you were gonna find something…somewhere that was a better place…”
“So you didn’t speak up, because you thought I would find a better place? Bullshit! You were afraid that people were going to shun you! You thought that if you defended me, none of your little “friends” were going to like you anymore. If they were your TRUE friends, then they wouldn’t have cared if you had told them all that I wasn’t a bully.” She lowered her head. She felt a deep disappointed in herself for what she had done.
“Dave…I’m sorry…” Dave’s eyes opened as wide as they possibly could. That was it? All she could was apologize?
“Is that all you have to say to me? You’re sorry? You fucked up my life! You could have fucking stopped it all and then Scott would have been gone. But you decided that you’re life meant more than anyone else’s!” Dave walked towards a chair that held a bag with his training gear in it. He snagged it from the chair with a death grip and walked to the door, which had been blocked by Jenny.
“I have to go get a lift to stay ready for my wrestling match, so if you would do me a favor and move out of the way. I mean, it’s the least you can do since you chose to let my life be an absolute fuck up.” Jenny looked at him and a smile from ear to ear arose.
“Wait, YOU’RE apart of the people that are wrestling in St. Louis this week! Oh my gosh, I was so excited to watch! I am a HUGE fan of wrestling! When is your guys’ show?” Dave wanted to get the hell away from Jenny and he could tell the only way he could do it without having to physically harm her was to tell her.
“We fight on the twenty-fifth. Now, can you please move so I can get my lift in? Or are you going to stand in front of the door all day pissing me off?”
“Who are you facing?”
Physically harming her didn’t sound like such a bad idea now to get away from her. However, Dave kept his composure.
“I am facing this old ass dude. His name is Joe Stall…oh wait, I am sorry. His name is “CAPTAIN” Joe Stall. Now can you let me-“ Jenny cut him off.
“Who is he?” She was interested in knowing who her “old friend” was going to be wrestling in the upcoming event. All Dave could do was take a deep breath and remain calm.
“He is the World Champion of FWF, so this is going to be a big match for me. If I can beat him, I can prove to the company that I am the greatest wrestler to ever enter the company and continue my goal of being the greatest wrestler in the history of sports entertainment. There, that is the run down, so can you LET ME GO NOW?” Jenny put her hands behind her back and tried to act friendly to Dave, hoping to see shades of the old Dave that she had known at the orphanage.
“What’s the magic word?”
Okay, verbal harm it is then.
“GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY RIGHT NOW! CAN YOU ATLEAST DO THAT FOR ME!?!” Dave was screaming at the top of his lungs and his face was pure red from yelling. He had lost his cool and snapped at her. Jenny could only stand there horrified. This was not the same Dave that she had known when they were kids.
“WHY THE FUCK DON’T YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO ME!?! IS IT SOME KIND OF LITTLE GAME YOU WANNA FUCKING PLAY WITH ME!?! WELL I AM SICK OF IT! GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY NOW!” Dave actually didn’t even give her a chance to move out of the way. He pushed her out of the way. He was done listening and looking at her. Jenny began to tear up. She was deeply sorry for what she had done, but there was no way that she was going to convince Dave to forgive her.
Jenny had seen what Dave had become. He had become an asshole, a douchebag, someone that everybody hated. She hated him, too. He was a dick to her when she tried to be friendly to him. She tried to apologize, but maybe she really didn’t understand how much of a difference his life was. Jenny shut the door with hate rushing through her veins.
But she had love in her heart.
